Getting to Grips With Packing

home moving articles and tips

Packing is one of the most important parts of the removals process, as it has a huge amount to do with how well protected your belongings are whilst in transit. You will find that it is also the most boring, which presents in itself a bit of an issue. So, how are you going to ensure that you pay the right amount of attention to the process that most influences the safety of your items whilst you are moving house?

The answer is to plan it out, so that you are packing in a way that ensures that you are able to get the job done effectively, whilst also reducing the length of time that you spend on packing to a manageable amount, to ensure that you are not at risk of getting bored or tired and doing less of an effective job.

Planning out the packing basically means assessing the packing process, and ensuring that you do it all in an order that ensures that you are not at risk of doing things in a less than logical way. The fact of the matter is that whilst you are gearing up towards the move, you need to be living in the very house that you re packing up.This means that packing away things that you might need is a complete waste of your time, as getting them out of the boxes will undo all of your hard work, and slow down the whole process considerably.

So, to start with, have a think about where to start, and when to get the final bits of the packing done, so that you are not likely to risk these set backs happening. The best place to start will be in reducing the amount that you need to pack in the first place, by getting rid of any junk and rubbish that you may have collected in your home. Have a jumble sale, or go to the local car boot with a load of stuff that you no longer need, and ensure that you’ve got rid of everything that you know that you won’t use. This will hopefully mean that there is a lot less in the attic and the garage to be packed, which will of course mean that your packing process will start off on the right foot.

From then onwards it is a case of ensuring that the packing that you do is preemptive of how things get used in your home. Books and ornaments that are not actually ‘used’ as such can go in to boxes pretty early, and then the rest is up to how you and the others in your house see fit. Whilst you are packing, try to use the most sturdy boxes that you can for the price that works for you.

Have a look online for deals, and don’t just go with the first option that you are offered, as it will rarely be the best option that you can find! Try to use as little bubble wrap as possible, as this will ensure that you are not wasting money or space in the boxes, saving you money in the long run. Be sure to label each box with a rough note of the contents, as well as the room that it is destined for, and whether it is heavy or fragile. You should put sign on each internal door in the new house when you arrive, so that your removals company are able to see where each box should be set down.
