How To Make Your Very Own
Small Movers And
Packers Supplies Kit

home moving articles and tips

If you find yourself worried about an upcoming relocation, and you don’t know where to begin, here’s a good start: start by acquiring and arranging things that you will need for the move. In other words, start preparing a small movers and packers supplies kit of items that come in handy during the move. Whether or not you choose to hire a removals company for the task, this packing and moving supplies kit is sure to be of use to you.

These are some of the basic, but very helpful items that you will need during the course of your relocation. Start putting these things together as early as you can because you will find yourself occupied with bigger, more important tasks towards the end.

1. Packing Boxes In Different Sizes

Packing boxes are one of the most fundamental packing supplies that you will have to stock up on. Given that you can’t really determine the exact number of boxes that you’ll need, it helps to make an estimate according to the amount of luggage that you have and then throw a few extra in for good measure.

Don’t stock up on boxes that are all of the same size though. Packaging boxes come in a variety of sizes and ideally, you should get some of each type. Extra-large and large boxes will come in handy when you’re packing heavy items and large stacks of things. Medium sized boxes are great for when you want to pack specific types of things together (for instance if you’re putting all your toiletries into one box). Small and extra small boxes are great for specific items that don’t need a lot of space but can’t be stuffed in with other items either.

2. Scissors, Shears And Box Cutters

Make sure you keep more than a single pair of scissors, shears and box cutters in your packing supplies kit. You’ll see that once the packing process actually begins, everyone will be grabbing for these things. With all the boxes to work with, tape to cut and attach, cushioning sheets to trim and so on, these tools are really important.

3. Packing Tape- Industrial Grade

Packing tape is yet another thing that most people fall short of when they’re packing. Go ahead and buy a few extra rolls; even if you don’t use them all up this time, they will come in handy later. Do remember to buy industrial packing grade tape though: regular cello-tape is not strong enough to hold heavy, packed boxes together. Industrial packing tape or duct tape will help seal boxes shut properly and can also be used to reinforces boxes for added support.

4. Bubble Wrap, Old Newspapers And Other Cushioning

Stock up on lots of cushioning materials like bubble wrap, foam peanuts, old newspapers and inflatable bags. These can be used to fill up empty spaces inside packed boxes, to prevent things from moving around and getting damaged. They can also be used to create a base layer for items that are fragile and need extra reinforcement.

5. Ropes, Twine and Other Fastenings

Ropes, twine and other chords and ties can help you in tying boxes together, joining pieces of furniture together and even locking things down in place inside the moving vehicle.

6. Markers And Labels

Markers and labels are an absolute must in any packing supplies kit: large labels with clear details written on them can really help speed up the loading, unloading and unpacking processes. Use dark markers on light-coloured labels to ensure maximum readability.

7. Stretch Wrap

Stretch wrap can be very useful in packing up oddly shaped things and bulky items that can’t be fitted into packing boxes or transported using any other conventional means of storage. Stretch wrap helps to protect things against surface-damage and keep things clean during the move.
